Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until fluffy and light in color, about 2-3 minutes.
- Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture, mixing well.
- Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Divide the dough into five equal portions.
- Add different gel food coloring to each portion and knead until colors are distributed.
- Take small pieces from each colored dough and roll them into ropes, then twist them together to form a spiral shape.
Baking
- Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheets, spacing them out.
- Sprinkle edible glitter or sprinkles on top if desired.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, until edges are set and centers are slightly soft.
- Let cool on baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to wire racks.
Notes
Store cookies in an airtight container for up to a week. Freeze cookie dough before baking for longer storage.
