Coloring and Decoration

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until fluffy and light in color, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture, mixing well.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Divide the dough into five equal portions.
  7. Add different gel food coloring to each portion and knead until colors are distributed.
  8. Take small pieces from each colored dough and roll them into ropes, then twist them together to form a spiral shape.
Baking
  1. Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheets, spacing them out.
  2. Sprinkle edible glitter or sprinkles on top if desired.
  3. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until edges are set and centers are slightly soft.
  4. Let cool on baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to wire racks.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container for up to a week. Freeze cookie dough before baking for longer storage.
