Cake Ingredients
  • 2 cups All-purpose flour Use whole wheat flour for a healthier alternative.
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar Feel free to reduce by a quarter if you prefer less sweetness.
  • 3/4 cup Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup Sour cream Keeps the cake moist.
  • 1 cup Real butter Do not use margarine.
  • 3 large Eggs
  • 1 cup Semi-sweet chocolate chips For the batter.
  • 1 cup Dark chocolate chips For the ganache.
Frosting
  • 1 batch Chocolate frosting Use a rich chocolate frosting recipe.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix together the dry ingredients: flour, sugar, cocoa powder, and baking powder.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the wet ingredients: eggs, melted butter, and sour cream.
  4. Gradually fold the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Pour the batter into greased cake pans.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for about 25 minutes.
  2. Remove from the oven and allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to cool completely on wire racks.
Frosting and Assembly
  1. Once the cakes are cool, apply a layer of frosting between each layer of cake.
  2. Cover the entire cake with the remaining frosting.

Notes

For a fancier touch, consider sprinkling flaky sea salt on top before serving. Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for the ultimate treat.
