  • 1 loaf loaf of challah or brioche bread Soft, tender slices soaked in custard.
  • 6 large eggs Provide richness and bind ingredients.

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Elevates the dish with warm aroma.

  • 1 cup mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries) Fresh and bursting with flavor.
For the Streusel Topping
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar Sweetens the topping.
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour Forms the crumble topping.
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted Adds richness to the streusel.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish.
  2. Cut the bread into cubes and place half in the greased baking dish.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon until combined. Pour half over the bread in the baking dish.
  4. Layer the mixed berries on top, followed by the remaining bread cubes. Pour the rest of the egg mixture over.
  5. In another bowl, mix granulated sugar, flour, and melted butter to create the streusel topping. Sprinkle over the bake.
Baking
  1. Bake for 45-50 minutes, until golden brown and the egg mixture has set.
  2. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

To elevate your bake, use stale bread, experiment with different berries, and consider adding nuts or drizzling with syrup before serving.
