  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt Balance the sweetness.
  • 1 cup Chopped pecans Get good quality pecans.
  • 1 cup Toffee bits Heath or similar brand.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine melted butter, flour, brown sugar, and salt. Mix until well combined.
  3. Press the mixture firmly into the bottom of a baking dish.
  4. Bake the crust for about 13 minutes.
Making the filling
  1. In a separate bowl, mix together the melted butter, brown sugar, eggs, vanilla, and salt until smooth.
  2. Fold in chopped pecans and toffee bits.
  3. Pour this mixture over the baked crust and spread it evenly.
Final baking
  1. Return the baking dish to the oven and bake until the edges are bubbly, about 25-30 minutes.
  2. Remove from the oven and let it cool completely before cutting into bars.

Notes

Letting the bars cool completely ensures neater squares. Store in a sealed container for up to three days at room temperature; about a week in the fridge, or freeze for longer storage.
