Method
Preparation
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped Thai basil, minced garlic, grated ginger, soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce, sugar, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly.
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the vegetable oil.
- Once hot, add the beef mixture and cook for about 5-7 minutes until browned and cooked through. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
Rolling
- Prepare a shallow dish with warm water for softening the rice paper sheets. Dip one rice paper sheet into the warm water for about 10-15 seconds until pliable.
- Lay the softened rice paper flat. Place a crisp lettuce leaf followed by a spoonful of the beef filling.
- Fold the sides inwards and roll tightly from the bottom to top, sealing the roll. Repeat with remaining sheets and filling.
Serving
- Arrange beef rolls on a platter and garnish with fresh cilantro leaves. Serve with a side dipping sauce.
Notes
Ensure all ingredients are chopped finely and do not overfill the rolls. Keep unused rice papers covered with a damp cloth. Practice rolling for improved techniques.
