Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 3-4 pounds beef brisket Look for a well-marbled cut for the best flavor and tenderness.
  • 1 whole onion, sliced Adds a sweet base flavor to the dish.
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced Provides a warm, aromatic quality.
  • 1 cup beef broth Enhances the meaty flavor and provides moisture.
  • 1/2 cup barbecue sauce Contributes a tangy sweetness to balance the savory notes.
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce Deepens the flavor profile with umami richness.
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar Adds a hint of caramelization and sweetness.
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika Brings depth and a touch of smokiness.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt Essential for seasoning.
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper Offers a slight kick to the dish.

Method

Preparation
  1. Layer the sliced onion evenly at the bottom of the slow cooker.
  2. Trim any excess fat from the beef brisket and lay it on top of the onions.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together the beef broth, barbecue sauce, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  4. Pour the sauce mixture evenly over the brisket, allowing it to penetrate the meat.
Cooking
  1. Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 8 to 10 hours.
  2. Once cooked, carefully remove the brisket and let it rest for 15-20 minutes.
  3. Slice or shred the brisket against the grain and serve with the reserved cooking liquid.

Notes

For deeper flavor, consider marinating the brisket overnight. You can also add cayenne pepper for a kick or extra brown sugar for sweetness. Adding vegetables like carrots and potatoes can simplify meal prep.
