Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb lean ground beef Choose lean beef for a healthy touch.
  • 1 medium onion, chopped Adds sweetness to the hearty meat.
  • 1 cup green bell pepper, chopped Lends a pop of color and crunch.
  • 15 oz canned tomato sauce Rich and savory base.
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese For comforting melted cheese.
  • 1 can refrigerated biscuit dough Creates a satisfying crust.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a large casserole dish.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until it’s no longer pink.
  3. Drain any excess fat, then add the chopped onion and bell pepper to the skillet. Sauté until softened.
  4. Stir in the canned tomato sauce and seasonings of your choice. Let it simmer for about five minutes.
  5. Layer half of the meat mixture evenly in the prepared casserole dish and sprinkle with half of the shredded cheddar cheese.
  6. Repeat this step, layering the remaining meat mixture and topping with the rest of the cheese.
  7. Top the casserole with pieces of the refrigerated biscuit dough, spacing them evenly.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the biscuit crust is golden brown.

Notes

Consider adding Worcestershire sauce for umami or paprika for a kick. You can substitute ground turkey for a leaner option. Leftovers can be stored for up to three days in the fridge or frozen for three months.
