Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a large casserole dish.
- In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until it’s no longer pink.
- Drain any excess fat, then add the chopped onion and bell pepper to the skillet. Sauté until softened.
- Stir in the canned tomato sauce and seasonings of your choice. Let it simmer for about five minutes.
- Layer half of the meat mixture evenly in the prepared casserole dish and sprinkle with half of the shredded cheddar cheese.
- Repeat this step, layering the remaining meat mixture and topping with the rest of the cheese.
- Top the casserole with pieces of the refrigerated biscuit dough, spacing them evenly.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the biscuit crust is golden brown.
Notes
Consider adding Worcestershire sauce for umami or paprika for a kick. You can substitute ground turkey for a leaner option. Leftovers can be stored for up to three days in the fridge or frozen for three months.
