Ingredients
  

For the Grits
  • 1 cup Grits The heart of the dish, providing creaminess.

  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil or Butter For sautéing.
  • 2 tbsp Fresh Parsley For garnish.
  • 1/4 tsp Red Pepper Flakes (Optional) For added heat.

Method
 

Preparation of Grits
  1. In a pot, combine water or chicken broth with a pinch of salt and bring it to a rolling boil. Stir in the grits and reduce the heat. Let simmer while stirring occasionally for 20 to 25 minutes.
  2. Remove from heat and set aside to rest.
Sautéing the Sausage
  1. In a skillet, heat olive oil or butter over medium heat. Add the smoked sausage and cook until browned, about 5 minutes.
Incorporating Vegetables
  1. Add the diced onion and bell pepper to the skillet and cook for another 5 minutes.
  2. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
Cooking the Shrimp
  1. Add the fresh shrimp, Cajun seasoning, paprika, and diced tomatoes to the skillet. Cook until the shrimp becomes opaque, about 3 to 4 minutes.
  2. Season with salt and black pepper, mixing well.
Final Presentation
  1. Spoon the grits into bowls, and top with the shrimp mixture. Garnish with fresh parsley and red pepper flakes if desired.
  2. Serve hot and enjoy.

Notes

For a lighter dish, consider using low-fat alternatives. Serve with a side salad or crusty bread.
