Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large skillet, cook the sausage over medium heat until browned and crumbly. Remove from skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add butter, then add the chopped onion, celery, and bell pepper. Sauté until tender and aromatic, about 5-7 minutes.
- In a large bowl, crumble cornbread into bite-sized pieces. Mix in the sautéed vegetables and cooked sausage.
- Pour the chicken broth into the mixture, then add sage, thyme, salt, and pepper. Stir until well combined.
- Grease a baking dish and transfer the stuffing mixture into it, spreading evenly.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is crispy and golden brown.
- Serve warm as a comforting side dish.
Notes
For a richer flavor, use homemade cornbread. Feel free to experiment with different sausage types and add-ins like fruits or nuts.
