  • 4 cups Cornbread, crumbled Freshly baked or store-bought
  • 1 lb Ground sausage Flavorful sausage
  • 1 cup Onion, chopped Freshly chopped
  • 1 cup Celery, chopped
  • 1 cup Bell pepper, chopped Any color
  • 2 cups Chicken broth Rich and savory
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted butter Adds richness
  • 1 tbsp Sage, fresh or dried For classic stuffing flavor
  • 1 tbsp Thyme, fresh or dried Enhances flavors
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Black pepper

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet, cook the sausage over medium heat until browned and crumbly. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add butter, then add the chopped onion, celery, and bell pepper. Sauté until tender and aromatic, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. In a large bowl, crumble cornbread into bite-sized pieces. Mix in the sautéed vegetables and cooked sausage.
  5. Pour the chicken broth into the mixture, then add sage, thyme, salt, and pepper. Stir until well combined.
  6. Grease a baking dish and transfer the stuffing mixture into it, spreading evenly.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is crispy and golden brown.
  8. Serve warm as a comforting side dish.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use homemade cornbread. Feel free to experiment with different sausage types and add-ins like fruits or nuts.
