Ingredients

For the Cupcakes
  • 12 pieces vanilla or chocolate cupcakes (homemade or store-bought)
For the Frosting and Decoration
  • 1 cup buttercream frosting (store-bought or homemade)
  • to taste red food coloring for Santa's hat
  • to taste white food coloring or leave some frosting plain for Santa's face
  • as needed pieces mini marshmallows for Santa's beard and the pom-pom on his hat
  • as needed pieces chocolate chips for twinkling eyes
  • as needed pieces small candy pieces for nose and decorative buttons

Method

Preparation
  1. If you’re opting for store-bought cupcakes, you can skip to frosting them. If you prefer homemade, prepare your favorite vanilla or chocolate cupcake recipe and allow them to cool completely.
Frosting
  1. Spread a generous layer of buttercream frosting on each cupcake.
  2. Dye half of the frosting red using red food coloring and pipe or spread it around the edge of each cupcake to create Santa’s hat, leaving a white circle at the top for his face.
Decorating
  1. Swirl mini marshmallows around the bottom edge of the white frosting for Santa’s fluffy beard.
  2. Top it off with a mini marshmallow for the pom-pom on his hat.
  3. Place chocolate chips in the center of the white frosting for twinkling eyes.
  4. Add a small candy piece for Santa’s nose.
  5. Sprinkle more mini marshmallows or small candy pieces along the cupcake bottom for charm.
Serving
  1. Set the Santa cupcakes on your dessert table and enjoy the festive holiday cheer they bring.

Notes

Encourage children to get creative with additional toppings. If your buttercream is too thick, add a teaspoon of milk to achieve a smoother texture. Flavoring the frosting with vanilla or peppermint extract is also recommended.
