  • 1/4 cup bread crumbs To bind the patties together for a juicy texture.
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese Adds a nutty flavor and depth.
  • 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped Provides a sweet aroma that enhances the dish.
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce Introduces that umami kick.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder Invokes flavor and warmth.
  • 1 teaspoon salt To elevate the overall taste.
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper For a touch of spiciness.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil To sear the patties to perfection.
For the Mushroom Gravy
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced Adds a rich earthiness to the gravy.
  • 2 cups beef broth The heart of the gravy, giving it body and flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour Helps thicken the gravy.
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped For garnish, adding a pop of color and freshness.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, bread crumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, finely chopped onion, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until evenly incorporated, then form into four oval patties.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Once hot, place patties in the skillet and cook for 5-6 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through.
  3. Transfer the browned patties to a plate and cover to keep warm while preparing the gravy.
  4. Using the same skillet, add sliced mushrooms and sauté for about 3-4 minutes or until tender and lightly caramelized.
  5. Sprinkle flour over the sautéed mushrooms and stir to coat. Gradually pour in the beef broth, stirring constantly until gravy thickens.
  6. Return the cooked patties to the skillet, nestling them into the gravy. Cover and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes.
  7. Serve warm with gravy poured over patties and garnished with freshly chopped parsley.

Notes

To elevate the experience, use lean ground beef, add fresh herbs like thyme or rosemary, or experiment with different types of mushrooms. Consider cooking in batches for even searing and refrigerating the meat mixture for better flavor melding before forming patties.
