Ingredients

For the Cupcakes
  • 1 box 15.25 oz vanilla cake mix
  • 1 cup Ingredients called for on cake mix box (usually eggs, oil, and water)
For the Buttercream Frosting
  • 1 cup 2 sticks unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For Decoration
  • 1 package Red candy melts (for the reindeer nose)
  • 1 package White candy melts (for the eyes)
  • 1 cup Mini chocolate chips (for the reindeer pupils)
  • 1 package Pretzels (optional, for antlers)

Method

Preheat and Prepare
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare your cake mixture per the package instructions, typically involving eggs, oil, and water.
  2. Line your muffin tin with colorful cupcake liners and evenly distribute the batter among the cups.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven for around 18-22 minutes. To check for doneness, insert a toothpick into the center; it should come out clean. Let them cool completely on a wire rack before frosting.
Make the Frosting
  1. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until smooth and creamy.
  2. Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing well after each cup. Blend in the milk and vanilla extract until achieving a smooth and fluffy consistency.
Decorate the Cupcakes
  1. Frost each cooled cupcake generously with the buttercream.
  2. Melt the red candy melts according to the package instructions to create a cute round nose on top of each cupcake.
  3. Melt the white candy melts and craft two small circles above the nose, placing a mini chocolate chip in the center of each for the eyes.
  4. Insert broken pretzels into the frosting on either side of the cupcake for antlers.
Set and Serve
  1. Allow the cupcakes to sit for a few minutes for the candy melts to harden. Serve them to friends and family during holiday celebrations.

Notes

Consider adding a pinch of cocoa powder to the frosting or trying different cake mix flavors for variations. Involve kids in the decorating process for fun.
