Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 4 slices slices of bread (sourdough, white, or whole wheat)
  • 2 tbsp butter (softened)
  • 1/2 cup marinara or pizza sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 12 slices turkey pepperoni (or preferred topping)
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh basil (optional)

Method

Preparation
  1. Spread a thin layer of butter on one side of each slice of bread. Sprinkle the buttered side with garlic powder and Italian seasoning.
  2. Place two slices of bread, buttered side down, and generously spread marinara sauce on the inside of each slice.
  3. Layer the sandwich starting with mozzarella cheese followed by Parmesan cheese and turkey pepperoni.
  4. Top with the remaining slices of bread, with the buttered side facing up.
Cooking
  1. Heat a skillet over medium-low heat. Cook the sandwiches for 3-4 minutes per side until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
  2. Let the sandwiches cool slightly, slice in half, and garnish with fresh basil if desired.
  3. Serve with additional marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

Don't rush the cooking process; cooking on medium-low heat allows the cheese to melt perfectly without burning the bread. Experiment with different toppings to suit your taste.
