Preparation
- Spread a thin layer of butter on one side of each slice of bread. Sprinkle the buttered side with garlic powder and Italian seasoning.
- Place two slices of bread, buttered side down, and generously spread marinara sauce on the inside of each slice.
- Layer the sandwich starting with mozzarella cheese followed by Parmesan cheese and turkey pepperoni.
- Top with the remaining slices of bread, with the buttered side facing up.
Cooking
- Heat a skillet over medium-low heat. Cook the sandwiches for 3-4 minutes per side until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
- Let the sandwiches cool slightly, slice in half, and garnish with fresh basil if desired.
- Serve with additional marinara sauce for dipping.
Notes
Don't rush the cooking process; cooking on medium-low heat allows the cheese to melt perfectly without burning the bread. Experiment with different toppings to suit your taste.
