Preparation
- In a large bowl, gently mix the ground beef with Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until just combined. Be careful not to overwork the meat! Form into 4 equal patties and let them rest while you prep everything else.
- Preheat your grill or grill pan to medium-high heat. Turn on the broiler for the burgers’ finishing touch. Split the buns and place them cut-side up on a baking sheet, then toast under the broiler until golden and warm. Set the top halves aside for later.
Cooking
- Grill the seasoned beef patties for 4-5 minutes per side until they reach your desired doneness, with those enticing grill marks that scream delicious.
- While the burgers cook, warm the pizza sauce in a small pan over low heat. Spread half the warm sauce on the toasted bottom buns to elevate each bite. Sprinkle half the gooey mozzarella cheese, then add half the crispy pepperoni, basking in the glory of its savory aroma. Broil for 2-3 minutes until the cheese melts into an indulgent layer.
- Place each cooked burger patty on the prepared bottom buns. Top with the remaining sauce, the rest of the mozzarella, and of course, more pepperoni! Broil again until the cheese is bubbling and the pepperoni edges are crispy.
Assembly
- Finally, carefully top each burger with the remaining bun halves and serve immediately. It’s best enjoyed hot and melty.
Notes
For healthier alternatives, consider using lean ground turkey or chicken, low-sugar pizza sauce, or whole grain buns. Pair with sweet potato fries or a garden salad for a complete meal.
