Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 220°C so it’s hot for melting the cheese.
- Heat an oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat and add olive oil. Once hot, add thinly sliced steak and season with garlic salt and black pepper. Sauté until browned on all sides, then set aside.
- Keep about 1 tablespoon of cooking juices in the skillet, discard the rest. Add sliced bell pepper and onion, cooking until tender but the bell pepper still has a bite. Set aside with the steak.
- Spread frozen waffle cut fries evenly in the skillet, layer on 4 slices of cheese, followed by the cooked steak and vegetables, then top with remaining cheese.
Baking
- Place the skillet in the preheated oven and bake for 8-10 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and allow to cool for a couple of minutes before serving.
Notes
For a lighter twist, use leaner cuts of steak or substitute with plant-based protein. Consider low-fat cheese or sweet potato fries for healthier options. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for longer storage.
