Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 1.75 cups All-Purpose Flour The foundation for a tender, fluffy cake.
  • 0.75 cups Cocoa Powder Unsweetened, providing deep chocolate flavor.
  • 1.5 teaspoons Baking Powder For a light and airy rise.
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Soda Works with acidic ingredients for perfect leavening.
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt Enhances all of the flavors.
Wet Ingredients
  • 2 cups Granulated Sugar Sweetness that balances the cocoa's bitterness.
  • 2 large Eggs Provides structure and richness to the cake.
  • 1 cup Whole Milk For moisture and a tender crumb.
  • 0.5 cups Vegetable Oil Adds richness and keeps the cake moist.
  • 1 cup Boiling Water Activates the cocoa and helps create a silky batter.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two 9-inch round cake pans by greasing and flouring them.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the granulated sugar, eggs, whole milk, and vegetable oil using a whisk or an electric mixer for about 2 minutes.
  4. Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing just until combined.
  5. Carefully stir in the boiling water.
Baking
  1. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans and bake for 30 to 35 minutes.
  2. Check for doneness by inserting a toothpick in the center; it should come out clean.
  3. Allow cakes to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Serving
  1. Once cooled, frost with chocolate frosting or serve plain with a dusting of powdered sugar.

Notes

Use room temperature ingredients for even mixing, sift cocoa and flour to avoid lumps, and consider adding a splash of vanilla or espresso powder to enhance flavor.
