Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the crumbled cake, non-alcoholic rum or rum extract, powdered sugar, cocoa powder, chocolate chips, chopped walnuts (if using), and vanilla extract.
  2. Mix well until all ingredients are fully incorporated, using your hands for better incorporation.
  3. Roll the mixture into small balls, about 1 inch in diameter.
  4. Roll the balls in additional cocoa powder or sprinkles until coated.
  5. Place the rum balls on a baking sheet and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to firm up.
Serving
  1. Serve chilled or store in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 3 months.

Notes

To ensure success, always use room temperature ingredients. If the mixture is too dry, add more rum or softened butter. Dampen hands when rolling to avoid sticking.
