Main Ingredients
  • 3 large egg whites (room temperature) The base of your meringue, these will whip up into beautiful fluffy peaks.
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar This gives the meringue its sweetness and glossy finish.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Adds a delightful flavor that complements the sweetness.
  • 0.5 teaspoon cream of tartar Stabilizes the egg whites and helps achieve those stiff peaks.
  • a pinch salt Balances the sweetness of the sugar.
  • green food coloring (gel or liquid) This gives your meringue the festive tree color.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 200°F (90°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a clean and dry mixing bowl, whip the egg whites along with a pinch of salt on medium speed until soft peaks form.
  3. Add in the cream of tartar and continue whisking until stiff peaks are achieved.
  4. Gradually introduce the granulated sugar, one tablespoon at a time while whisking on high speed until shiny and glossy.
  5. Whisk in the vanilla extract.
  6. Add the green food coloring and gently fold it in until your desired color is achieved.
Piping and Baking
  1. Transfer the meringue into a piping bag fitted with a star-shaped nozzle and pipe tree shapes onto the prepared baking sheet.
  2. Bake for about 1.5 to 2 hours, or until completely dry and crisp.
  3. Once baked, turn off the oven and let the meringues cool completely inside.
Finishing Touch
  1. Sprinkle gold star-shaped sprinkles on top and dust with powdered sugar right before serving.

Notes

Make sure all equipment is clean and dry when whipping egg whites. Optional additions include edible glitter or other flavored extracts.
