Ingredients
  

For the Cake
  • ¾ Cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • ¾ Cup light brown sugar (packed)
  • ¼ Cup granulated sugar
  • 1 piece egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 Cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 Cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ Cup semi-sweet chocolate chunks
  • ½ Cup Red and White M&M’s
  • ½ Cup pink and white heart sprinkles
For the Frosting
  • 1 ½ Cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 3 Cups powdered sugar
  • 4 Tablespoons heavy whipping cream
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • a few drops pink gel food coloring

Method
 

Preparation of the Cake
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a heart-shaped baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, beat the softened unsalted butter with light brown sugar and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, baking soda, and kosher salt. Gradually add to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  5. Fold in semi-sweet chocolate chips, chocolate chunks, and M&M’s.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 20-25 minutes or until edges are golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Let the cake cool completely in the pan before transferring it to a wire rack.
Frosting and Decorating
  1. In a clean bowl, beat softened butter until creamy.
  2. Gradually mix in powdered sugar and heavy whipping cream, then add vanilla extract and beat until fluffy.
  3. Add a few drops of pink gel food coloring and mix until desired shade is achieved.
  4. Spread a generous layer of frosting over the cooled cake.
  5. Decorate the top with pink and white heart sprinkles.

Notes

Chill the dough for about 30 minutes before baking to enhance flavors. Use high-quality chocolate for richer flavor, and feel free to experiment with additional flavors.
