Preparation
- In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until no longer pink. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Add the diced onion to the skillet and sauté until soft. Then, add minced garlic and cook for another minute.
- Stir in the tomato paste and cook for another minute. Sprinkle the flour over the beef mixture, coating it well.
- Gradually add beef broth while stirring continuously to avoid lumps. Season with thyme, paprika, salt, and pepper. Allow it to simmer for 8-10 minutes until thickened.
Dumplings
- For the dumpling dough, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix in softened butter until crumbly, then stir in the milk until just combined.
- Drop tablespoonfuls of the dumpling dough on top of the simmering beef mixture.
- Cover the skillet and reduce heat to low. Steam the dumplings for 15 minutes without lifting the lid.
- Remove from heat and let sit for 5 minutes before serving hot.
Notes
For added flavor, consider adding a splash of Worcestershire sauce. You can incorporate fresh herbs for an aromatic twist.
