Ingredients

Main ingredients
  • 1 9-inch unbaked pie crust You can use store-bought or homemade.
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure it's at room temperature.
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar Adjust according to taste.
  • ½ cup packed light brown sugar Can substitute with dark brown sugar for a richer flavor.
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature Brings a better texture to the filling.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract For enhancing flavor.
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour Can substitute with gluten-free flour if desired.
  • ½ teaspoon salt Balances the sweetness.
  • 1 ½ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips Feel free to substitute with other types of chocolate.
  • ½ cup chopped pecans or walnuts Optional, add for crunch.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (160°C) and fit the unbaked pie crust into a pie plate.
  2. In a large bowl, beat together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and light brown sugar for about 2-3 minutes until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Sprinkle the flour and salt over the butter and sugar mixture, mixing on low speed until just combined.
  5. Gently fold in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using) until evenly distributed.
  6. Pour the filling into the prepared pie crust, spreading it evenly.
Baking
  1. Bake for 50-65 minutes, until the edges are set and lightly golden, but the center still has a slight wobble.
  2. Allow to cool on a wire rack for 2-3 hours before slicing.
Serving
  1. Serve warm or at room temperature, ideally with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

Can drizzle melted chocolate over the top before serving. Consider adding a dash of espresso powder to deepen the flavor. For variations, try toffee bits or shredded coconut instead of nuts.
