Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (177 degrees C).
- Line your baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter with the sifted powdered sugar until fluffy and creamy.
- Mix in the molasses and vanilla extract until fully combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, blending until a soft dough forms.
- If the dough feels too soft, chill it in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes.
- Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and place them on the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 12 to 14 minutes, or until the bottoms are lightly golden.
- Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for about 5 minutes, then roll them in powdered sugar while still warm.
- Allow them to cool completely, then roll again for an extra snowy finish.
Notes
For perfect cookies, ensure your butter is well softened. You can also experiment with sugars for rolling; a mix of powdered sugar and cinnamon yields an interesting twist.
