  • 1/2 tsp Brandy or Sherry Optional for flavor depth.

Method

Prepare the Burger Patties
  1. In a mixing bowl, gently combine the ground beef with the French onion soup mix, avoiding overmixing to retain tenderness.
  2. Divide the mixture into four equal parts and shape each into patties slightly larger than the buns.
  3. Season both sides liberally with salt and pepper, then set aside.
Caramelize the Onions
  1. Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat, then add sliced onions and a splash of water.
  2. Cover the pan and let the onions cook for about 10 minutes, stirring frequently and adding more water as needed until golden brown.
  3. For an elevated finish, stir in brandy or sherry and a pinch of thyme before removing from heat.
Cook the Burgers
  1. Heat your grill or skillet on medium-high heat and cook the patties for 4-5 minutes on each side.
  2. During the last minute of cooking, lay a slice of cheese on each patty, letting it melt.
Assemble the Burgers
  1. Optionally toast the onion buns for extra crunch.
  2. Place the patty on the bottom bun, add caramelized onions, and finish with the top bun.
  3. Serve the burger hot with sweet potato fries or fresh salad.
