Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Sift together almond flour and powdered sugar in a food processor to eliminate lumps.
- In a separate bowl, beat egg whites until frothy, add cream of tartar, and continue beating until soft peaks form.
- Gradually incorporate granulated sugar, continuing to whip until stiff peaks form.
- Mix in a few drops of green food coloring and gently fold in the almond flour mixture until combined.
Piping
- Fill a piping bag with the green macaron batter and pipe small circles onto prepared baking sheets.
- Allow macarons to rest for 30 to 60 minutes until a skin forms on top.
Baking
- Bake macarons for 15 to 18 minutes. Do not open the oven door during baking.
- After baking, cool on sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to wire racks.
Making Buttercream
- Beat softened unsalted butter until creamy.
- Gradually sift in powdered sugar while mixing, then add vanilla extract.
- Whip until buttercream is fluffy and light.
Assembly
- Pipe a generous amount of buttercream onto the flat side of one macaron shell and gently sandwich another shell on top.
- Stack macarons to create a Christmas tree shape and decorate with edible decorations.
Notes
Ensure all tools are clean and grease-free for perfect macarons. Use a kitchen scale for precise measurements. Consider adding flavors like peppermint extract or crushed pistachios to the buttercream for variations.
