  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 cups bread cubes Stale or fresh
  • 1 cup shredded cheese Cheddar works great

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it’s hot enough to cook your casserole evenly.
  2. In a skillet, cook the sausage over medium heat until nicely browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, and pepper until smooth and frothy.
  4. Layer the bread cubes in a greased casserole dish, spreading them out evenly.
  5. Add the cooked sausage (and any optional vegetables) over the bread evenly distributed.
  6. Pour the egg mixture gently over the top, ensuring to cover all the bread and sausage.
  7. Sprinkle cheese generously on top.
Baking
  1. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the eggs are set and the top is golden brown.
  2. Let cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Notes

For best results, use stale bread as it absorbs the egg mixture better. You can also mix and match with different cheeses or fresh herbs.
