Potato and Cheese Ingredients

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch casserole dish with cooking spray or butter.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned; drain excess fat.
  3. Add the onion and garlic, sautéing for 3-4 minutes until the onion is soft.
  4. Season with salt, pepper, paprika, and thyme.
  5. Sprinkle flour over the beef mixture, stirring to coat evenly. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes; gradually add broth and milk, stirring until creamy.
  6. Mix in sour cream and 1 cup of cheddar cheese until melted.
Assembly and Baking
  1. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the greased casserole dish. Spread the beef mixture over the potatoes, then layer remaining potatoes and cheddar cheese.
  2. Dot the top with butter.
  3. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
  4. Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving.
