Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, add the olive oil and let it warm up.
  2. Add the ground beef to the skillet and break it up as it cooks. Stir frequently until browned.
  3. Once browned, add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes until the onion is translucent.
  4. Pour in the Dr. Pepper, barbecue sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, and ground cumin. Stir and bring to a light simmer.
  5. Reduce heat and let the mixture simmer for 10-15 minutes, until thickened. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. If desired, toast the hamburger buns.
  7. Spoon the beef mixture onto each bun and sprinkle chopped parsley on top if using.

Notes

For added spice, consider adding jalapeños or cayenne pepper. You can also incorporate grated cheese on top for richness. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to three days or freeze for up to two months.
