Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease and flour a 9x13-inch baking dish thoroughly.
- In a saucepan, combine the Coca-Cola, vegetable oil, unsalted butter, and cocoa powder over medium heat. Stir until the butter is completely melted.
- Bring the mixture to a gentle boil while stirring constantly.
- Remove from heat and set aside to cool slightly.
Mixing the batter
- In a large bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Pour the hot cocoa mixture over the dry ingredients and stir to combine.
- In a separate small bowl, whisk the eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Gently stir the egg mixture into the batter until just smooth.
Baking
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and gently smooth the top with a spatula.
- Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out with moist crumbs.
Frosting
- Let the cake cool completely before frosting.
- In a bowl, combine the butter, Coca-Cola, cocoa powder, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract to make the frosting.
- Spread the frosting over the cooled cake.
Notes
Let the cake cool completely before frosting to prevent melting. You can add chocolate chips for extra richness and use milk + vinegar mix if out of buttermilk.
