  • Food coloring of your choice (optional) To add a splash of joy and vibrancy

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare your heart-shaped cake pan by greasing it generously and dusting it with flour.
  2. In a bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set this mixture aside.
  3. In a mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until fluffy and pale.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition to create a smooth batter.
  5. Stir in the vanilla extract, then alternate adding the dry ingredients and milk into the butter mixture, starting and ending with dry ingredients.
Baking
  1. Pour the batter into the greased heart-shaped pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
  2. Bake for 25-30 minutes. A toothpick inserted in the center should come out clean.
  3. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
Frosting
  1. In a clean bowl, beat the softened unsalted butter until creamy.
  2. Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing well after each addition.
  3. Add the milk and vanilla extract, mixing until the frosting reaches your desired consistency.
  4. If desired, add food coloring to achieve the perfect shade.
Assembling
  1. Frost the cooled cake generously and evenly, using a spatula for the sides.
  2. Decorate with sprinkles, edible glitter, or piping designs as desired.

Notes

For a richer flavor, consider browning the butter before adding to the batter. You can also layer the cake with fruit preserves or curds, decorate with fresh berries, or experiment with different extracts.
