Ingredients

Meatball Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef Can be substituted with ground turkey for a lighter option.
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Cooking Ingredients
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 packet French onion soup mix
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese Can substitute with other cheeses like provolone or gouda.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, egg, finely chopped onion, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined to keep the meatballs tender.
  2. Form the mixture into meatballs, approximately 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter. The size you choose will affect cooking time, so keep them consistent.
Cooking
  1. Place the meatballs in the crockpot, arranging them slightly apart to ensure even cooking. Avoid overcrowding to get perfectly cooked meatballs.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix the beef broth and French onion soup mix until dissolved. Pour this mixture over the meatballs in the crockpot.
  3. Cover the crockpot and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours or on high for 3 to 4 hours until the meatballs are cooked through and tender.
  4. Once cooked, sprinkle mozzarella cheese over the meatballs and cover for an additional 15 minutes to melt the cheese.
  5. Serve the meatballs over rice or pasta.

Notes

To ensure your meatballs are the star of the dish, consider these tips: don’t overmix, maintain consistency for shaping, and feel free to add herbs or spices for flavor. Batch cooking is recommended for easy meal prep.
