Preparation
- In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground meat and chopped onion together. Drain any excess fat.
- In a large crockpot, layer half of the chopped cabbage, followed by half of the browned meat mixture, and half of the uncooked rice.
- Pour half of the tomato sauce and diced tomatoes over the layered ingredients. Repeat with remaining cabbage, meat mixture, rice, and top with the rest of the sauce.
- Carefully pour the broth over the layers. Sprinkle with garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
Cooking
- Cover the crockpot and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours until the cabbage and rice are tender.
Serving
- Serve warm and enjoy the comforting flavors.
Notes
For added flavor, consider using leftover rice, fresh herbs, or cheese. A vegetarian option can be made by substituting the meat with lentils or quinoa.
