Ingredients

For the cookie stacks
  • 1 tube sugar cookie dough Soft and sweet, this dough will form the base of your cookie stacks.
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened This will add richness and flavor to your frosting.
  • 2 cups powdered sugar Sweet and fluffy, for a perfect, creamy frosting texture.
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract Provides a fragrant depth to your frosting.
  • 2 Tbsp heavy cream Ensures your frosting is smooth and spreadable.
  • green food coloring To achieve that festive tree hue.
  • 1/2 tsp salt Balances the sweetness of the frosting.
  • Christmas nonpareils These small candies will add a festive touch.
  • Yellow mini M&Ms or sprinkle stars Perfect for topping and adding a whimsical finish.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a medium cookie sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll the sugar cookie dough into balls—1 teaspoon for the smallest, 2 teaspoons for the medium, and 3 teaspoons for the largest. Place them on the baking sheet, spaced apart.
Baking
  1. Bake the cookies for about 5 minutes. Remove the smallest cookies and continue baking the medium and largest cookies for an additional 3-4 minutes until golden.
  2. Cool baked cookies on a wire rack.
Frosting Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, use a hand mixer to beat the softened butter until fluffy. Gradually add the powdered sugar until combined.
  2. Incorporate the vanilla extract, heavy cream, green food coloring, and salt until the frosting reaches a desired creamy consistency.
Assembly
  1. Transfer the frosting to a piping bag fitted with a medium star tip. Pipe a circle of frosting onto the largest cookie, place the medium cookie on top, and pipe again. Stack the smallest cookie on top and pipe a point to resemble the tip of a Christmas tree.
  2. Decorate with Christmas nonpareils and finish with a sprinkle star or yellow mini M&M on top.

Notes

If the dough is too soft, chill in the fridge for 30 minutes. Adjust frosting consistency by adding more cream for a softer texture or powdered sugar for a stiffer frosting. Consider using different flavorings like almond or peppermint. Kids can personalize their cookies with different candies and sprinkles.
