Method
Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9 x 13 inch pan with parchment paper, leaving a two-inch overhang.
- Lightly grease the parchment with cooking spray.
- Prepare the brownie mix according to the box directions and pour the batter into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly.
Baking
- Bake the brownies for 25 to 30 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan.
Frosting Preparation
- In a large bowl or using a stand mixer, beat the softened butter until smooth and creamy.
- Gradually add the powdered sugar and mix until just combined.
- Add vanilla extract, heavy cream, and a pinch of salt, mixing until smooth.
- Incorporate green food coloring into the frosting to achieve your desired shade.
- Transfer the frosting into a piping bag fitted with a small open star tip.
Assembly
- Once the brownies are fully cooled, remove them from the pan and slice into three long rows, cutting each into six triangles.
- Insert candy cane pieces into each brownie triangle to create tree trunks.
- Pipe a zigzagging line of green frosting on top of each brownie triangle and finish with colorful sprinkles.
Notes
For extra flavor, mix in a teaspoon of peppermint extract or use cream cheese frosting instead of buttercream. Store any leftovers in an airtight container, at room temperature for up to three days, or freeze for a month wrapped in plastic.
