Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9x13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, beat together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.
  4. Incorporate the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract (if using). Beat until fully combined.
  5. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. Add milk if the dough is too thick.
  6. Press the dough evenly into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
Baking
  1. Bake for 18-22 minutes until golden and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  2. Allow the cookie base to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
Frosting Preparation
  1. While cooling, make the frosting by beating the softened butter until creamy.
  2. Gradually add the powdered sugar and beat until smooth. Stir in vanilla extract and milk until creamy.
  3. Divide the frosting and color with red and green food coloring.
Decoration
  1. Once cool, spread red frosting on one half and green on the other.
  2. Top with holiday sprinkles.
  3. Allow frosting to set, then cut into squares and serve.
