Ingredients

For the mints
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened to create a smooth texture
  • 1/4 cup sweetened condensed milk for rich creaminess
  • 1/2 tsp peppermint extract for iconic mint flavor
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract to balance flavors
  • 4 cups powdered sugar, sifted for fluffy texture
  • 1 pinch salt to enhance sweetness
  • Red or green food coloring (optional) to make mints festive

Method

Preparation
  1. Cream the softened butter and sweetened condensed milk together in a large bowl until smooth and free of lumps.
  2. Blend in the peppermint extract, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until well incorporated.
  3. Gradually add the sifted powdered sugar, mixing thoroughly after each addition, until you have a thick and smooth dough.
  4. Divide the dough in half and mix in food coloring into one portion if desired.
  5. Roll the dough into small balls, flatten them, or cut into shapes.
  6. Arrange the mint shapes onto a wax paper-lined baking sheet and let sit at room temperature for 2-3 hours until firm.
  7. Store the mints in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks.

Notes

To elevate your mints, consider mixing in finely crushed candy canes or experimenting with different flavors like chocolate mint or almond.
