Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Line a baking sheet with foil and arrange the Saltine crackers in a single layer.
Cooking
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar over medium heat, stirring continuously until dissolved and bubbling.
- Carefully pour the hot butter mixture evenly over the crackers.
- Bake in the oven for 5-7 minutes, keeping an eye on them to avoid burning.
- Remove from the oven and sprinkle chocolate chips over the hot toffee.
- Spread the melted chocolate over the toffee layer.
- Sprinkle optional toppings if desired, then allow to cool completely before breaking into pieces.
Notes
For added flavor, you can use salted butter. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks.
