Preparation
- In a large bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and active dry yeast. Allow this mixture to sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.
- Once frothy, add the eggs, softened butter, salt, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg. Stir well until creamy.
- Gradually add the flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Flour your surface generously and knead your dough for about 8 to 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough into a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm spot for approximately 1 hour.
Baking
- Punch the dough down gently. Fold in the dried fruit and chopped nuts.
- Shape the dough into a loaf and place it in a greased loaf pan. Let it rise again for about 30 minutes, covered.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake your bread for 30 to 35 minutes until golden brown.
- Let it cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Notes
Use ingredients at room temperature for best results. Consider adding orange zest or ginger for a twist. Brush the loaf with melted butter and sprinkle with sugar for an attractive finish.
