Ingredients

For the Bread
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour Provides that lovely, soft texture.
  • 1 cup warm milk Activates the yeast and keeps the bread moist.
  • 1/2 cup sugar A touch of sweetness.
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened Adds richness and tenderness.
  • 2 large eggs Contributes to a lush crumb.
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast Leavening agent for airy structure.
  • 1 teaspoon salt Enhances flavors and strengthens gluten.
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon A warm, aromatic spice.
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg Adds a lovely depth.
  • 1/2 cup dried fruit (like cranberries or raisins) For bursts of sweetness.
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (like walnuts or almonds) Adds crunch and nutty flavor.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and active dry yeast. Allow this mixture to sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Once frothy, add the eggs, softened butter, salt, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg. Stir well until creamy.
  3. Gradually add the flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  4. Flour your surface generously and knead your dough for about 8 to 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough into a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm spot for approximately 1 hour.
Baking
  1. Punch the dough down gently. Fold in the dried fruit and chopped nuts.
  2. Shape the dough into a loaf and place it in a greased loaf pan. Let it rise again for about 30 minutes, covered.
  3. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake your bread for 30 to 35 minutes until golden brown.
  4. Let it cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

Use ingredients at room temperature for best results. Consider adding orange zest or ginger for a twist. Brush the loaf with melted butter and sprinkle with sugar for an attractive finish.
