- Slice the Italian loaf lengthwise into two halves and place cut side up on a baking sheet.
- In a small bowl, combine butter and garlic salt, then spread generously on the inner sides of the bread.
Cooking
- In a large skillet, cook ground beef and diced onions over medium heat until browned, draining excess grease.
- Stir in garlic powder, yellow mustard, ketchup, and kosher salt. Simmer until thickened.
- Spoon the sloppy joe mixture between the two halves of bread.
- Top with mozzarella and cheddar cheese, then place the baking sheet in the oven.
- Bake for 12-14 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Cut into pieces, sprinkle with fresh parsley, and serve immediately.
Notes
For a healthier version, consider using lean ground turkey or whole grain bread. To avoid soggy bread, let the filling cool slightly before assembling.
