Preparation
- Heat a large non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add the unsalted butter and let it melt.
- Sauté the sliced smoked sausage for 3 to 4 minutes until browned.
- Remove seasoning packets from Rice-A-Roni and sprinkle rice mix into the skillet, stirring to coat. Cook for an additional 1 to 2 minutes.
- Pour 5 cups of water into the skillet and stir in the seasoning packets. Reduce heat to low, cover and simmer for 20 minutes.
- Steam the broccoli florets until tender, then chop them.
- Stir in the chopped broccoli and shredded cheddar cheese into the skillet until melted. Serve immediately.
Notes
For added flavor, include garlic powder or red pepper flakes. Consider adding sliced bell peppers or using plant-based proteins for variations.
