Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the ziti pasta according to package instructions until al dente, then drain.
  3. In a skillet, cook the ground beef or sausage over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
  4. Add marinara sauce to the skillet with the meat and simmer for 5 minutes.
  5. In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  6. Combine cooked ziti with the meat sauce and stir gently.
Layering and Baking
  1. In a baking dish, layer half of the ziti mixture, half of the ricotta mixture, and half of the mozzarella cheese.
  2. Repeat the layering process.
  3. Sprinkle Parmesan cheese on top and cover with foil.
  4. Bake for 25 minutes, then remove foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
Serving
  1. Let cool for a few minutes, garnish with fresh basil if desired, then serve.

Notes

Ensure the pasta is cooked al dente, drain excess fat from the meat, and layer ingredients evenly for good flavor distribution. Bake covered initially for even heating, then uncover for a golden top.
