Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cook the ziti pasta according to package instructions until al dente, then drain.
- In a skillet, cook the ground beef or sausage over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Add marinara sauce to the skillet with the meat and simmer for 5 minutes.
- In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
- Combine cooked ziti with the meat sauce and stir gently.
Layering and Baking
- In a baking dish, layer half of the ziti mixture, half of the ricotta mixture, and half of the mozzarella cheese.
- Repeat the layering process.
- Sprinkle Parmesan cheese on top and cover with foil.
- Bake for 25 minutes, then remove foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
Serving
- Let cool for a few minutes, garnish with fresh basil if desired, then serve.
