Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and powdered sugar together until fluffy and light.
  3. Mix in the vanilla extract, ground cardamom, and salt until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the all-purpose flour to the mixture, stirring until combined into a soft dough.
  5. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes.
  6. Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are lightly golden.
  7. Let the cookies cool on a wire rack while preparing the glaze.
  8. For the glaze, whisk together the powdered sugar, fresh orange juice, orange zest, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  9. Once cooled, drizzle or dip the cookies in the orange glaze and let it set for 10-15 minutes before serving.

Notes

For best results, ensure butter is at room temperature. Chill the dough for about 30 minutes before rolling for neater shapes. Optional: add crushed nuts or experiment with other spices.
