Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and powdered sugar together until fluffy and light.
- Mix in the vanilla extract, ground cardamom, and salt until well combined.
- Gradually add the all-purpose flour to the mixture, stirring until combined into a soft dough.
- Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes.
- Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are lightly golden.
- Let the cookies cool on a wire rack while preparing the glaze.
- For the glaze, whisk together the powdered sugar, fresh orange juice, orange zest, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Once cooled, drizzle or dip the cookies in the orange glaze and let it set for 10-15 minutes before serving.
Notes
For best results, ensure butter is at room temperature. Chill the dough for about 30 minutes before rolling for neater shapes. Optional: add crushed nuts or experiment with other spices.
