Preparation
  1. Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add sliced onions and stir occasionally for about 10 minutes until softened.
  3. Lower the heat, sprinkle a pinch of salt, and stir for an additional 15-20 minutes until caramelized.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine sour cream, mayonnaise, garlic powder, salt, and pepper; whisk until smooth.
  5. Fold the caramelized onions into the creamy mixture until evenly distributed.
  6. Transfer to a serving bowl, cover, and chill in the refrigerator for at least an hour before serving.

Notes

For extra flair, consider adding fresh herbs, cheese, or spices. Serve it warm or chilled with vegetable sticks, pita chips, or on a cheese board.
