Description

A comforting and indulgent lasagna layered with ground beef, Italian sausage, and rich cheeses.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound Italian sausage
  • 3 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 jar (24 ounces) marinara sauce
  • 1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 1 container (15 ounces) ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and Italian sausage until browned. Drain the excess fat.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and chopped onion, sautéing until the onion is translucent.
  4. Pour in the marinara sauce and tomato sauce, then add Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes if using. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  5. Boil the lasagna noodles according to package instructions, drain, and set aside.
  6. In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, parsley, and half of the Parmesan cheese until well-mixed.
  7. Spoon a thin layer of the meat sauce into a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  8. Layer 4 lasagna noodles on top, followed by one-third of the ricotta mixture, a layer of meat sauce, and 1 cup of mozzarella cheese.
  9. Repeat layers two more times and finish with remaining noodles, meat sauce, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheese.
  10. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes, then remove foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes or until the cheese is golden and bubbling.
  11. Allow to rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Letting the lasagna rest ensures cleaner slices. Feel free to add sautéed vegetables for extra flavor.
