Description

Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract (optional)
  • Pink food coloring
  • Orange food coloring
  • Royal icing for decorations (colors of your choice)
  • Edible glitter or sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Whisk together dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  2. Cream together softened butter and granulated sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy.
  3. Add egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract (if using) to the butter mixture, mixing until well combined.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until a dough forms.
  5. Divide dough into two portions, coloring one pink and the other orange.
  6. Wrap dough portions in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least one hour.
  7. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  8. Roll out dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness, then cut out heart shapes.
  9. Bake cookies for 8-10 minutes until edges are light golden.
  10. Cool cookies completely on wire racks.
  11. Decorate with royal icing to create floral patterns.
  12. Optional: Sprinkle with edible glitter or colored sprinkles.
  13. Allow icing to set before serving or packaging.

Notes

For healthier options, substitute whole wheat flour and natural sweeteners. Be sure to not overbake cookies for best results.
